Five days, done right, is plenty of time to understand why people fall for this island. This route was built for travelers who have a short window but don’t want a rushed, box-ticking holiday.

From Negombo you’ll head inland to Sigiriya, where the climb up the old rock fortress rewards you with one of the best views in the country. Nearby, the Dambulla cave temples add another layer of history before you continue on to Kandy — a city built around the Temple of the Tooth Relic and still very much the cultural center of the island today.

The road then climbs into Nuwara Eliya, where the temperature drops, the hills turn green with tea, and the pace of the trip naturally slows down. A walk through a working tea factory and a bit of time in the old colonial town round out the highland leg.

From there it’s back down to the coast — Bentota or Colombo — for a final stretch of beach and sea air before your flight out. Short trip, full experience.
